A New Day, A New Norm

Thrive Through Cancer Academy offers an interactive workshop for cancer survivors and their loved ones. Women’s empowerment coach and cancer survivor Cindy Sheridan Murphy, and songstress/writer Debra Lynn Alt, offer tools and a strategy to facilitate the transition from cancer patient to a thriving cancer survivor. This is an interactive workshop using music and writing for healing, learning and growth. Survivors will leave with an accessible action plan and resources for connection and minimizing feelings of isolation.

We are excited to be including humorist and author and all around spectacular hysterical delight Eileen Kaplan! Her mantra is “Chemo is a form of therapy…so is laughter.”

GOALS

1. Helping women and their loved ones deal with the what ifs and the unknowns of life after a cancer diagnosis and/or treatments. Facilitate the creation of a new more mindful, accepting, and purposeful life, while helping to define their own personal “new norm”.
2. Helping women to cultivate their individual action plans that help address the What Next? stage of their lives.
3. To leave as part of a welcoming and supportive community, struggling and sharing the journey of their New Norm.

DESCRIPTION

While much attention is given to supporting cancer patients and their loved ones to return to their ordinary life after cancer treatment, why stop there? A life threatening illness is transformative, so there is no reason to settle for the old “normal”. We offer experiential tools and resources to facilitate an increased sense of purpose and desire for growth and reaching out to others. Engagement on emotional, physical, spiritual and financial levels may not be for everyone. However for women who are awakening to a world of new possibilities, this workshop begins to sketch a map using music and reflective writing. Survivors create their own vision for the future, and explore levels of awareness using their disease as a tool for learning and growth.   The workshop includes audio-visual presentations as well as live music, comedy and guided journaling and meditation.
